As part of our mission to reach out to community and to have conversations in 2021, Edward Dunne, Police Chief of Falmouth, and Carmen Espinoza, Domestic Violence Specialist with the Falmouth Police Department and Independence House, are joining us in our March meeting to discuss domestic violence during the pandemic, comparative statistics, ERPOs and the position of a domestic violence specialist within the police department. The Falmouth Police Department was one of the first police departments on the Cape to support our new campaign on gun safety "You Can Save a Life Now", and we sincerely appreciate their support. |

About our speakers:Chief Dunne was born in Maryland, raised and educated in the Bridgewater/Brockton area, and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Boston State College and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Western New England College. Chief Dunne began his law enforcement career with the Falmouth Police Department as a seasonal police officer in 1975 and became a permanent police officer in 1981 after attending the Barnstable Police Academy. During his tenure with the Falmouth Police Department, he has held many specialty positions, such as motorcycle officer, accident reconstructionist, detective, photographer, arson investigator, special response team commander, just to mention a few. In 1997 he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. In 2008, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and was in charge of Specialized Services On November 14, 2012, Chief Dunne was appointed as interim Police Chief. On April 11, 2013, he was appointed permanent Police Chief. He is past president of the Southeastern Massachusetts Police Chiefs Association. In 2015, he was elected to the Executive Board for the Massachusetts Police Chiefs Association. In 2016, he was elected to position of Sergeant of Arms for the Massachusetts Police Chiefs Association and currently sits as president. Chief Dunne also sits on the Board of Directors for the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce. He is on the advisory board for Belonging to Each Other, an organization assisting the homeless. Chief Dunne is very active with the Jimmy Fund Walk and Special Olympics’ Law Enforcement Torch Run and Tip a Cop. He also enjoys cycling with the The Tour de’ Force and Ride to Remember which raises money for fallen officers' families. Chief Dunne is proud to serve the Falmouth Community and is committed to providing the best police service to residents and visitors. He firmly believes the mission of the Falmouth Police Department is to “Protect and Serve”. Chief Dunne resides in Falmouth with his wife Melinda and has two adult children, Kyle and Kelcie. Carmen Espinoza is the Civilian Domestic Violence Specialist at the Falmouth Police Department. Carmen's goal is to connect victims of domestic violence to the local resources, provide crisis intervention after an incident, and be available for any questions survivors and the community may have. Carmen is also a Domestic Violence Counselor for adults for Independence House at the Falmouth location. Both positions are designed to provide a seamless transition between the police department and Independence House and all the resources available. |
