Just One Hour for Gun Violence Prevention!
Rally at the Rotary
the 14th of Each Month, 11:30 - 12:30
Hyannis Rotary, Airport Road
The Rally at the Rotary is back!
With the escalation of gun sales in the past years,
we have a lot of work to do.
The Rally at the Rotary began as a vigil
for the children killed at Sandy Hook in 2012.
It has continued every year since then,
once a month on the anniversary day,
the 14th from 11:30 to 12:30,
as a memorial to them and the numerous
other victims of gun violence.
It is a reminder to each and every one of us,
and to every person that passes us there,
that the fight against gun violence is far from over.
Massachusetts stands as one of the highest ranked states
in the nation for common sense gun legislation
and we are safer for it.
But there are other reasons we rally there
and there is more work to be done. The rally
-
Highlights Freedom of Speech and Assembly
When we assemble at the rotary, it reminds people that they
live in a society where they can assemble and speak freely.
It sets an example for our youth.
-
Encourages People
Our presence encourages people to stand up and speak out
for what they believe.
We encourage positive change and action.
-
Raises the Issue
Many folks are too busy with their lives and families to
follow the issue the way we do, so we serve as a reminder
to them to vote for common sense gun candidates.
-
Starts a conversation
Often our rally starts a conversation with others
who may not be thinking about the topic.
People who see us there often come to our meetings.
-
Sends a message
Our Rally sends a message to our politicians
and elected officials as well as to people
who would oppose common sense gun legislation.
We will be there until the public health issue
of gun violence is properly addressed.
